affected:
St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church
Comments: The Archdiocese is presenting this as an either/or, yes/no, black/white, demolish or leave town issue. We need to step back and take a more circumspect view of the situation. There must be a compromise solution. The building is unique and easily adaptable as an assembly space. The school site is huge (19 acres - previous Holy Name site was 16 acres) and it is inconcievible that no alternate site plan has been developed by the campus architect that incorporates the church. Holy Cross can relocate to the Cabrini site and the school can coexist with the church, but it will only happen if the Archdiocese thinks outside their narrow box. The Curtis and Davis designed structure is irreplaceble and its demolition would be a great loss to the city.
