Name: Joanne Frey
City: Seward, Alaska
Specific
property
affected:
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana
Comments: I and my 5 sisters and a gaggle of cousins in the Frey family all attended St. Francis Cabrini School. I graduated from St. joseph Academy which was across the street. My son attended St. Francis Cabrini. All family events were from this church and Rev. Gerard Frey was the founder of this parish and the pastor when the new church was built. Despite all of this, it is definitely in the best interest of the community to tear down these buildings and let Holy Cross renew the area! The Frey family would all agree that the area's well being should come first. Many family members still own their property in this area and would want Holy Cross to move forward! Please do not stop the progress of this area of the city! The only other building in New Orleans of the same style and architect was the Rivergate and it was torn down without a second thought for the casino to be built, so why should Holy Cross be prevented from helping this area by tearing down this building! Since when does a building built in the 60's qualify as historic anyway??
