St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 5500 Paris Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana
Comments: I am definitely in favor of tearing down the church. Yes, the roof is a unique architectural design - not necessarily attractive - but unique. The same roof is also sitting on top of a building destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The building was expensive to heat in the winter and to cool in the summer. I also leaked during rainstorms.
No one wanted to see the loss of lives and property as a result of Hurricane Katrina but it happened. The parish voted to sell the church to Holy Cross. The neighborhood wants Holy Cross to build on the Cabrini/Redeemer site. Holy Cross has a chance to help rebuild this neighborhood as well as to continue the tradition of educating young men as it has for over 125 years. Tear down the church!
