St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church 5500 Paris Avenue New Orleans, LA 70122
Comments: As former parishioners of St. Francis Cabrini Church and a resident of Cabrini Court, we wish to express our concern about the issues regarding the demolition of the church. Holy Cross is a much needed development for the future existence of the area. Currently there is very little activity from residents or businesses. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, the census of the church was not that of the time when the church was initially built. In addition, the parish struggled with generating funds to maintain the concrete roof; which is at the foundation of the agrument for those citing the design is the reason to preserve the structure. It is disheartening that individuals who do not live in the area or Orleans Parish are challenging the building of Holy Cross. What purpose would a historic structure be if there is no one in the area in which it exist? In closing, we ask what most residents in the area would ask; consider the families that had a renewed sense of hope when the Holy Cross board announced their decision to relocate their campus to the site thus rebuilding of a viable community that has been dormant since the storm.
