Comments: The Catholic Church says tear it down. The neighborhood says tear it down. The New Orleans Preservation Resource Society says tear it down. What part of this message is not getting through? There would be no kinder gift to the area at this point than a new, vibrant project designed to attract middle class families and children. I hope that all of those people who want it "preserved" (it is currently in shambles) intend to move to that neighborhood to enjoy it. I lived a block away from Cabrini. If I showed someone a picture of my house, and of Cabrini, no one outside of New Orleans would ever guess that either was located in New Orleans. They could have been located in Denver, or in Atlanta, or Cincinatti, or wherever. The French Quarter says New Orleans. So do many other areas. Frankly, even though I lived there, this particular area never seemed very distinctly New Orleans to me. It's just an average suburban area, and an unusual, not particularly attractive, suburban church. Hope and rebuilding for the future are much more important.
