Housing

The greatest natural disaster to strike the continental United States has left the Gulf Coast, Louisiana, and New Orleans with over a million people homeless. Americans from all over the country have opened their homes, cities have established shelters, and government agencies and charitable organizations have rallied resources for the displaced. Much has been done to help and there is much more to do. Housing remains among the most significant obstacles in the rebuilding process. We hope the resources listed here will assist in the all-important task of finding our families secure places to live. The sites have been researched as legitimate, but we advise you to be cautious in releasing personal information.

Road Home Program
The largest single housing recovery program in U.S. history – was developed by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to help our residents get back into a home or apartment as quickly and fairly as possible. The Road Home program is currently taking applications. It does not cost anything to apply. Eligible homeowners affected by Hurricane Rita or Katrina may receive up to $150,000 in compensation for losses to get back into their homes.
