The Division of Archaeology operates under three mandates: the federal National Historic Preservation Act, the state Archaeological Resources Act and the state Unmarked Burial Sites Act. These responsibilities relate to recording, protecting, and distributing information about the state's archaeological resources. The Division of the Arts is responsible for the development and promotion of the arts for the benefit of all people of Louisiana. This is accomplished through several grants programs that award funds to Louisiana artists and arts organizations to help provide arts activities statewide. Division of Historic Preservation The Division of Historic Preservation encourages the preservation of Louisiana's significant historic sites and buildings, such as plantation homes, lighthouses, log cabins and battlefields Louisiana Cultural Economy Initiative The Cultural Economy Initiative, an effort of the Office of the Lt. Governor and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Cultural Development, supports the development of creative industries as a viable sector of Louisiana’s economy. It is also designed to develop events that will attract the industries serving arts and culture to Louisiana. MORE >>
OCD is proud to welcome The Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL) as its newest division, effective July 1, 2006! CODOFIL was created in 1968 by the state legislature, because of the vast number of native French speakers in Louisiana. According to Legislative Act No. 409, CODOFIL is empowered to "do any and all things necessary to accomplish the development, utilization, and preservation of the French language as found in Louisiana for the cultural, economic and touristic benefit of the state."
