Quarterly Calendar of Events Submission Louisiana Quarterly Calendar

The Louisiana Office of Tourism is producing its second-quarter Calendar of Events which includes events from April to June.

For an event to be included in the printed calendar, it must be entered into the online calendar on LouisianaTravel.com. Events can be loaded via the Submit Event link at the bottom of the LouisianaTravel.com homepage. For further information or assistance, contact Jeff Richard at 225.342.7454 or jrichard@crt.la.gov.

Online event submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.


Lt. Governor's Tourism Summit   Lt. Governor's Tourism Summit
With more than 400 attendees at this year's Lt. Governor's Tourism Summit, this event was one of the best attended in recent years as Louisiana Travel Promotion Association along with sponsors, speakers and vendors worked to ensure a successful summit. During the three-day Summit, Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne unveiled the new marketing campaign.

To help transition from a January to an August timeline, a second Summit will be held August 26 - 28, 2013 in Baton Rouge at the Crowne Plaza.

  Florida Governor Scott recommends increased funding for Visit Florida
South Florida Business Journal - Florida Governor Rick Scott has announced his proposed budget for 2013 - 2014, calling for $75 million in public funding for Visit Florida in order to support statewide tourism marketing efforts for the coming year. The recommendation represents a 39 percent increase over the allocation from the previous year.

  Poverty Point nominated to World Heritage List
The Advocate - Louisiana's Poverty Point State Historic Site and its ancient mounds in West Carroll Parish are officially vying for a spot on the World Heritage List that includes such famous sites as the Taj Mahal, Stonehenge and the Grand Canyon. Outgoing U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar recently announced that Poverty Point's nomination as a World Heritage Site was submitted to the World Heritage Centre in Paris. If chosen, the monumental earthwork site near Epps would be the first site in Louisiana and the second in the southeastern United States to be added to the list. It is estimated that Poverty Point is at least 3,100 years old and comprises five mounds, six concentric urban ridges and a large interior plaza.
 


Brand USA   Brand USA brings second phase of campaign to UK
Breaking Travel News - Brand USA has confirmed it will launch the next phase of the global campaign 'Land of Dreams' in the UK. The campaign will launch in partnership with British Airways and will include 30- and 60-second television advertisements, supported by digital, out-of-home and print elements.
 


Travel Effect logo   U.S. Travel Association launches advocacy and awareness campaign
Despite the size and positive impact of the U.S. Travel industry, the act of traveling has yet to be seen as an essential part of our lives, businesses and economy. The Travel Effect campaign proves that the travel experience and the travel industry as a whole have a measureable and purposeful impact. The Travel Effect uses new and original research to prove economic, societal, business and personal benefits of travel, demonstrating the real truth behind the "hidden" impacts that travel can have.
 


WikiVoyage   Wikipedia launches travel site
USA Today - Creators of Wikipedia, the global "people's encyclopedia" that relies on volunteer contributors to write and edit articles, are launching a collaborative online travel guide that aims to cover everything from Disney World to Diyarbakir (one of the largest cities in southeastern Turkey). After several months of testing, Wikivoyage is making its official debut. The site will compete with guidebook publishers such as Fodors, Frommers and Lonely Planet, user-generated reviews and forums such as TripAdvisor, and Wikitravel, a 10-year-old commercial site inspired by the unrelated Wikipedia.
