Partnership opportunity in Canada August 2013

Canada Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is traveling to Canada on a Louisiana Office of Tourism mission Aug. 6 -10. The trip will touch the number one international destination for Louisiana-Toronto-as well as Montreal and Quebec City. The anticipated schedule follows.

  • Wednesday, Aug. 7, Toronto: Lt. Governor Dardenne presides over two tourism functions-a luncheon for media and tour operator invitees and an after-work function for select travel agents.
  • Thursday, Aug. 8, Saint-Liguori, Quebec: Lt. Governor Dardenne hosts a luncheon for the Festival Acadien de la Nouvelle-Acadie. www.Nouvelle-Acadie.com
  • Friday, Aug. 9, Quebec City: Lt. Governor Dardenne participates in special Louisiana Day activities at Les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France. www.NouvelleFrance.qc.ca

KATC.com-Louisiana Travel social media efforts rank eighth among U.S. state tourism agencies in a study released by Think! Social Media. This is an improvement from a No. 12 ranking in the fourth quarter of 2012. The study uses a 16-point system to rank tourism marketing organizations which includes examining each agency's use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+ and Flickr.
 


New this spring...

  What's New in Louisiana spring 2013
The Office of Tourism is updating What's New in Louisiana. Send information on new attractions, tours, trails, restaurants, overnight providers, online tools, apps, major infrastructure affecting visitors and anything else relevant to tourism in your area. The asset does not have to be new-it can be improved, expanded or renovated. To submit, email Jeff Richard at jrichard@crt.la.gov by April 11. Include the name of the asset, a brief description, physical address, primary contact person and contact information including a website and e-mail address.

  Venue change for Louisiana Soundtrack Experience in Lafayette
Lafayette's Louisiana Soundtrack Experience, Cajun Seasoning: Zydeco Rhythms in the Heart of Acadiana, scheduled for April 20 is changing venues. The panel discussion and film Sunshine By the Stars will now take place at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The concert featuring Corey Ledet and Lil' Band O' Gold will be held at Parc Sans Souci as originally scheduled. Kentwood Welcome Center Grand Reopening

After an 18-month closure for renovations, Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and DOTD Secretary Sherri LeBas held a grand reopening and ribbon cutting at the Kentwood Welcome Center April 3.

"Welcome centers are our way of making pleasant first impressions on our state's visitors." Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne said. "The improvements to the Kentwood Welcome Center will enhance the Louisiana experience as our travel counselors assist and educate visitors on travel opportunities throughout the state."

In conjunction with a $7.5 million DOTD project on I-55, Kentwood State Welcome Center received renovations including additional restroom facilities, improved landscaping and general site enhancements. More than 89,000 tourists visit the Kentwood Welcome Center each year.

  Cooperative Marketing Program application deadline is April 15
The purpose of the Cooperative Marketing Program is to empower local DMOs to determine which marketing efforts best promote the history, culture, art, folklife, recreation and leisure opportunities, natural resources, sites, attractions, accommodations and/or other events or activities that support LOT's goal of presenting Louisiana as a unique and desirable travel destination. The application deadline for the Cooperative Marketing Program is April 15.

The Times-Louisiana's state-licensed casinos won nearly $226.9 million from gamblers in February-$25.4 million more than January's winnings but down $6.6 million from the previous year.

The Washington Post-According to a report published by the U.S. Travel Association, long wait times are deterring international travelers from visiting the U.S. The report surveyed 1,200 overseas travelers from six top travel markets.
