Lt. Governor Dardenne promotes Louisiana in Canada

The Times Picayune - Lt. Governor Dardenne lead a Louisiana delegation to Ontario and Quebec to build support for Louisiana tourism and promote its seafood safety. The delegation made presentations at two functions in Toronto-a luncheon for media and tour operators and an after-work tabletop and supper for travel agents. In Quebec City, the group participated in Louisiana Day activities at Les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France, including a booth promoting five Quebec wholesalers' travel packages to Louisiana.

Dossier Louisiana Media Kit   Louisiana to be featured in United Airlines in-flight magazine
Hemispheres, United Airlines' in-flight magazine, is publishing a special insert, Dossier Louisiana, in its November issue. The insert will also be available online. Hemispheres reaches an estimated 12.3 million readers each month. United Airlines executes 5,605 flights per day into 375 destinations in 62 countries. In 2012, 148 million passengers flew with United Airlines. For those interested in advertising in the November issue's insert, Hemispheres is offering fractional ads beginning at $3,500 for a one sixth page. Deadline to reserve advertising space is Sept. 6 and artwork must be submitted by Sept. 20. Did you know that Delta Airlines began as a small crop-dusting operation in Monroe? The Office of Tourism is seeking stakeholder input to update an overview of superlatives and interesting and unusual facts related to Louisiana's history, government, geography, architecture, business, arts and culture. "Louisiana Did You Know?" is part of the Louisiana Office of Tourism's media assistance kit. Click here to view a draft of the document. Search Engine Marketing Keywords   New Matching Program Announced - Search Engine Marketing
The Office of Tourism is partnering with Madden Media to offer Louisiana DMOs a $1-to-$1 match program for Search Engine Marketing. This Google AdWords co-op program guarantees a fixed 60-cent cost per click. The minimum monthly investment is $500 and the maximum monthly investment is $1,500 for a minimum of 3 months. LOT has budgeted $60,000 for the match and participation in the program is first come, first served.

Three educational conference calls which will provide more detailed information about the program are scheduled for Sept. 3, Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 at 2pm each day . To register for a call, contact Danah Heye at dheye@maddenmedia.com, and specify which day you wish to participate.

Fly Fishing in Salt Waters magazine's September/October 2013 issue names Louisiana as the second ranked "must-fish" destination in the nation. The Florida Keys took top honors and Louisiana ranked ahead of Montauk, N.Y., San Diego and Cape Lookout, Ore.

  Louisiana Tax Free Shopping opens refund center in Bossier City
Red River Radio - Louisiana Tax Free Shopping opened a sales tax refund center at the Outlets at Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City. The program that began 25 years ago aims to attract international visitors by offering sales tax refunds on purchases of clothing, electronics and other personal items. According to Denise Thevenot, the program's executive director, international visitors spent almost $27 million through the program last year, resulting in $2.2 million in refunds. LTFS hopes to provide a more streamlined shopping experience by installing refund centers at shopping malls throughout the state.

  Rutherford Beach makes can't-miss U.S. beaches list
CNN Travel compiled a list of can't-miss coastal U.S. beaches. Selections were based on spectacular or unusual beaches that stand out because of their unique geography, historical significance or overwhelming beauty. Rutherford Beach, part of the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road in southwest Louisiana, was recognized by CNN Travel as a can't-miss U.S. beach. The 26 miles of coastal beaches are known for birding and shell collecting.

Successful Meetings - The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill limiting spending on meetings by federal agencies. The bill-H.R. 313, otherwise known as the Government Spending Accountability Act of 2013, or the GSA Act-codifies into law guidelines issued last year by President Obama's Office of Management and Budget in response to the 2012 General Services Administration scandal.

MarketingProfs - Baby boomers and seniors now spend more time online than watching television, according to a report by Ipsos and Google. On average, seniors and boomers (defined in the report as those age 45 or older) spend 19 hours a week online, but they spend 16 hours watching television. Their online usage also far outpaces time spent listening to the radio and reading newspapers and magazines.
