Louisiana Preservation Alliance. The only official state-wide historic preservation organization. Members of the Alliance seek to discover and conserve historic buildings in all parts of Louisiana. It is an alliance because its members seek to strengthen historic preservation through an alliance of the local preservation organizations throughout the state.

The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans. Excellent site with a variety of topics including Standards, Working with Builders and Contractors, Acquiring Historical Properties in New Orleans, and their excellent publication on-line, Preservation in Print.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation. Become a member and join the forum, find Main street information, preservation books, current events and The Forum discussion group.

The National Main Street Center. The mother organization of all Main Street, this website is briming with up to date information about downtown revitalization including conferences, training opportunities, job opportunities and breaking news about Main Street. Become a member of the network and enjoy the NMSC monthly newsletter plus access to special areas on the National Main Street Center website.

The certified local government discussion group, local historic district issues, all Historic District Commissioners should go here for free access to a wealth of knowledge and help. This group is extremely useful; you can post pictures of pending projects, conduct polls, exchange ideas and solutions as well as schedule events on the online calendar. Preservation Briefs resolving common preservation and repair problems prior to work. The Briefs are especially useful to preservation tax incentive program applicants because they re Preservation Briefs assist owners and developers of historic buildings in recognizing and commend those methods and approaches for rehabilitating historic buildings that are consistent with their historic character.

Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Rooted in over 120 years of preservation ethics in both Europe and America, The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties are common sense principles in non-technical language. They were developed to help protect our nation's irreplaceable cultural resources by promoting consistent preservation practices. The Standards must be applied to all properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places: buildings, sites, structures, objects, and districts.

Preservation Action. Founded in 1974, Preservation Action advocates federal legislation to further the impact of historic preservation at the local, state and national levels. Good place to go to keep on top of current issues as well as sharpen your lobbying skills.

Economic Development Rebuilding the downtown's economic vitality, is the ultimate goal of all Main Street programs. Economic restructuring diversifies the downtown economy. This involves business retention and recruitment, the development of imaginative merchandising techniques, sharpening the competitiveness of downtown merchants, finding new uses for vacant space, and attracting new retail and non-retail functions (offices, residential, and recreational uses) to strengthen and diversify downtown's economic base.
