Why Hire Historic Preservation Professionals?

The Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation does not recommend consultants. The following list is provided as a courtesy to our constituents who wish to obtain professional assistance in preparing their National Register nominations. (For a list of archaeological consultants, please contact the Division of Archaeology at 225 342-8170.) The consultants on this list have asked to be included because they have provided, or have expressed interest in providing, professional services in the identification, evaluation and treatment of Louisiana's historic resources. This list is not intended to be all inclusive. In providing this list, the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation does not recommend, represent, endorse, or assume responsibility for the accuracy of this list, the quality of a consultants' work, nor guarantee that any work product produced by those on this list will necessarily meet your project requirements. The professionals on this list possess varied levels of education and experience, and their fees vary widely. Inclusion on this list does not imply that every individual/firm is qualified to complete the preparation of all types of National Register nominations. Because it is not possible for us to fully verify the experience and credentials of the firms and individuals included here, we strongly recommend that you ask for and check references and review recent work samples before signing a contract and/or hiring anyone included in this list. We also suggest contacting the State Historic Preservation Office in the state or states where the consultant has worked. SHPO staff will not recommend consultants but can tell you if the previous work of the consultant in question has been acceptable. It must be understood that the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation determines whether documentation of a property is sufficient for National Register evaluations and whether National Register Forms are technically correct and complete according to current federal and state standards. It is not uncommon for our office to request additional information to assess property eligibility. Additionally, National Register forms are often returned for revisions before they are scheduled for review by the Louisiana National Register Review Committee.
