STATEMENT ON MOTION TO DISMISS JUVENILE JUSTICE SETTLEMENT
Baton Rouge, LA - "I am pleased that the federal juvenile justice settlement has been dismissed. For too long, Louisiana's juvenile justice system failed to rehabilitate our youth." said Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu. "As chairman of the Juvenile Justice Commission and Juvenile Justice Implementation Commission, I have worked intimately with Governor Foster's administration, Governor Blanco, her staff, youth advocates, juvenile court judges, district attorneys and law enforcement officers, and parents and family members of youth offenders to overhaul this troubled system. I believe Louisiana is now capable of providing quality services that reduce our youth recidivism rate. Today's juvenile justice system is a comprehensive network that promotes safety, family and community involvement and seeks to reform our youth through seamless continuum of care."
