LT. GOV. LANDRIEU, ESSENCE PRESIDENT TO ANNOUNCE: ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL IS COMING HOME IN '07
Gov. Blanco, Mayor Nagin, Essence Host Committee Join Announcement; Hail Essence's Return as a Shot in the Arm for Tourism Industry, LA Economy
WHAT: The return to New Orleans of the 2007 Essence Music Festival will be announced on Tuesday, October 24 by Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, Michelle Ebanks, President of Essence Communications, Inc., Governor Kathleen Blanco, Mayor C. Ray Nagin, Essence executives and tourism industry leaders. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 Essence Festival was held in Houston, Texas. The Essence Music Festival is a critical component of Louisiana's tourism business - drawing well over 200,000 visitors with an economic impact of over $125 million annually. The Lt. Governor formed the Essence Host Committee, comprised of tourism industry leaders, to speak with one voice and negotiate Essence's return.
