LT. GOVERNOR MITCH LANDRIEU PROMOTES LOUISIANA AS A PREMIER RETIREMENT DESTINATION
Announces Competitive Funding and Certification Program for State Communities Interested in Attracting and Retaining Retirees
Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu recently launched a new initiative to bolster Louisiana's reputation as a premier retirement destination. The program, Redefine Life, Retire in Louisiana, Certified Retirement Community, is designed to assist Louisiana cities and communities in their efforts to attract and retain retired adults.
"Our state has much to offer retirees looking to relocate--a welcoming and lively culture, extraordinary and diverse natural beauty, a warm climate, and a relatively low cost of living," Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu said. "Our challenge is clear. We must build upon what we have and get the word out -- Louisiana is a great place to retire."
Local communities selected for certification receive inclusion in state-level marketing efforts, technical assistance, networking opportunities and funding to support the program. Matching grants of $10,000 will be awarded to six communities during the first year. The funding supports the requirements of a participating community: strategic and annual action plans, marketing efforts, community forum event and final report submission.
To qualify, communities must attend one of twelve seminars held around the state in late January and February. The meetings will be held on the following dates and locations:
January 25, 2007 - Minden, Minden Civic Center Complex, 1:00pm
January 31, 2007 - Natchitoches, Natchitoches Events Center, 1:00pm
