LT. GOV. LANDRIEU TO DEDICATE NEW CABINS AT POVERTY POINT RESERVOIR STATE PARK ON FEB. 28
$5.2 million Capitol Improvement Project is an Economic Boost for the Region; Poverty Point Hosts a Free Day in the Park to Celebrate the Projects Completion
DELHI - Poverty Point Reservoir State Park will host a free day in the park on Wednesday, Feb. 28, celebrating the completion of a $5.2 million improvement project at the park. Eight new cabins, opened in December 2006, will be dedicated, in addition to a 54-site campground.
"These new overnight facilities at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park will be an asset for Northeast Louisiana," said Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu. "Louisiana is a 'Sportsman's Paradise,' and our state parks provide out-of-state visitors and residents the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors."
Lt. Governor Landrieu and Rep. Francis Thompson of Delhi will take part in the 10 a.m. dedication ceremony that celebrates the opening the cabins, located at the south end of the reservoir lake. Following the ceremony, activities include free refreshments, tours of the park's facilities and nearby Black Bear Golf Course, and demonstrations of the Poverty Point culture and history, until 2 p.m.
Each of the 8 lakefront cabins have central air and heat and include two-bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom, open deck and screened porches. The units rent for $90 per night and sleep up to 8 guests. Bed linens, basic dishware and cooking utensils are provided, but visitors must bring their own towels and soap products.
A campground featuring 54 improved campground sites, a comfort station with showers, washing machines and dryers and a water playground opened at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in June 2006. In addition to the new cabins and the campground, the park offers four overnight lodges, boat ramps, a marina with rental boat slips and a beach area.
Poverty Point Reservoir State Park is located three miles north of Delhi/I-20. For more information on the site, or to reserve lodges, cabins or campsites visit www.lastateparks.com or call 1-877-226-7652.
