LT. GOVERNOR LANDRIEU ANNOUNCES $1.7 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR TOURISM MARKETING
BATON ROUGE - Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu announced today that the Joint Legislative Committee on Budget has granted the Office of Tourism an additional $1.7 million to enhance advertising efforts.
"The tourism industry has gained momentum in recent weeks with the success of the Strawberry Festival, the French Quarter Festival, the Zurich Classic and the upcoming Jazz Festival," Lt. Governor Landrieu said. "This is no accident. We put in place a strategic plan 18 months ago, and the successes we are seeing now are the result of the industry's hard work and focus."
The state has launched the most extensive marketing campaign in Louisiana history, which features Louisiana celebrities urging visitors to "Come fall in love with Louisiana all over again." The following celebrities have donated their time to participate in the advertising campaign: Tim McGraw, Emeril Lagasse, John Goodman, Wynton Marsalis, Patricia Clarkson, David Toms, George Rodrigue and Alan Toussaint.
"We're approaching the end of the school year and the start of the busy festival season," said Angele Davis, Secretary of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. "These additional funds will help us reach potential visitors in cities within driving distance of Louisiana who are now planning their summer vacations."
The additional funding will be used in a regional radio campaign in markets, including, Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Little Rock, Jackson, Mobile and Laurel-Hattiesburg. In addition, the campaign will have a very strong presence in national cable.
