LT. GOVERNOR MITCH LANDRIEU ON JENA SIX
Baton Rouge, LA - Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement regarding the Jena Six issue. Lt. Governor Landrieu serves as the Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Commission. As a former State Legislator, he helped lead the Juvenile Justice Reform Movement in Louisiana.
"In recent weeks, I have met with and kept in close contact with a diverse group of citizens, community and religious leaders in Jena. For many of us in Louisiana, our focus is on healing the community and coming together to find higher common ground. In the days and months ahead, this will be our challenge and our priority. "
"After all of the national media leaves, it will be left up to the people of Jena to band together and build a stronger community. Through these events, we will be called upon as a state to learn valuable lessons and to move Louisiana forward."
