Louisiana Serve Commission to Host Teleconference Workshop to Encourage LA Programs to Apply For Grants
Baton Rouge, LA -The Louisiana Serve Commission in the Office of Lieutenant Governor will host a teleconference workshop to assist new and re-competing AmeriCorps programs in applying for state and national grant programs on December 6, 2005, from 1:00 pm to 2:45pm. The grants will be awarded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. More than $69,000,000 will be given to programs across the country, with an additional $101 million to support continuation grants for those programs in their second and third year of AmeriCorps funding in fiscal year 2006.
"This is an important funding opportunity for Louisiana's Americorps programs," said Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu. "In the aftermath of the country's worst natural disaster, we need Americorps volunteer programs more than ever to help rebuild Louisiana."
Applicants who are eligible to apply include: public or private non-profit organizations, community organizations, institutions of higher education, government entities within states or territories, and indian tribes. The Louisiana Serve Commission is especially interested in reviewing applications from programs that recruit volunteers to help with the rebuild efforts taking place in areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
The following locations will serve as sites for the workshop from 1:00pm - 2:45pm:
