Every year, the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation sponsors training opportunities for historic district commissioners. In the past, these have included sessions at the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation conference, CAMP (Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program) organized by the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions, and other trainings in North and South Louisiana utilizing local and national experts.
According to the Louisiana CLG guidelines, commission members are required to attend at least one of these training sessions per year pertaining to the work and functions of the commission or to historic preservation. Such meetings may include those sponsored by the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, or a local preservation organization.
